As this week comes to a close, it is important to reflect on everything that has occurred. For the Caribbean Islands, we were faced with a hurricane, and a nasty one at that. Being in Barbados, we missed the worst of the worst and the students at Ross University got to see a sneak peek into hurricane weather.
The school was shut down for two days, power/water went out, and people were left wondering what to do. Families back home were worried as they watched the news and hoped their messages got through to their students. It was a truly strange moment, to feel the worry creep up in wonder if everything was going to be okay or not.
I was in charge of my roommate’s cat who I was taking care of for the moment and I found myself more worried over that cat than myself. I took great responsibility in knowing that I had been entrusted with this creature and I was going to do my best to take care of it. As 10 p.m. rolled around, the skies were still clear and it was only slightly windy. Many of the Student population crawled into their beds and decided to sleep. Most of us did sleep through the storm but woke up to no power. Then it was time to decide to study or watch downloaded Netflix. Slowly by the mid-afternoon, everything had somewhat cleared back up and the world slowly returned to normal.
I am extremely grateful that nothing worse happened to Barbados but saying this, I wanted to extend hope and faith to the other islands in the Caribbean in their time of need. Many donations going on so if you feel like you want to, a quick Google search will pull up one of your choice.
To everyone else in this hurricane season, stay safe if the storm is heading your way. No one knows what the rest of the season will bring.
And as always, thank you to everyone who follows the blog and the travel adventures.
