Friday Newsletter: Cardiology

I feel like I rarely speak about medical school in these Newsletters. While this website and blog are more for my writing and its promotion, I tend to forget about the other side of my life. I avoid mentioning the topic of it sometimes and I have never exactly understood the reason for it.

Medience is me just as much as writing is. I think sometimes we are conditioned to believe that we can not have it all. I should just be a medical school and not a writer but I am a writer and I am a medical student. Both are essential to who I am. Without medical school, I am not sure where I will be. I decided on this path in the 10th grade and stuck with it through hell and high waters. I took the MCAT at the end of my undergrad degree. I did not do as well as I wanted but also did not study as well as I wanted.

Someone recommended me to Caribbean’s medical schools and I thought why not? I have always been curious to live on an island. So I applied and got in with a catch. The catch was that I had to do a 14-week program that was supposed to set me up for medical school. So I did it. Fail it. Did it again and then got into medical school.
And then I have been at my current school for 5 semesters. Fail one so currently in the 4th semester and after the 5th semester I will be officially in the clinical portions of my studies why is Cardiology the title of this Newsletter?

Because that is what I am studying right now. The pathology of Cardiology to be exact. From Heart Attacks to Hypertension to Birth defects. Cardiology isn’t something I am sure I want to study in the long term but I do find it very cool. It is one of those subjects that I naturally could pick up on. I have found that some things that I am not so naturally good at.

But there is so much related to Cardio and how at the core of the body, the heart does dictate a lot about your health. Which I encourage anyone and everyone to learn what they can about their hearts and how to live their healthy lifestlyles

As always thank you to everyone!

  1. keep up both writing and your plan to become a Doctor. You are good at both and will impact so many lives during your journey. A Writer and a Doctor can truly move people in a positive direction.
